About Us:
This site was born in 2010 out of our frustrations in trying to find ALL haunts and spooktacular attractions in the Joplin, Missouri Four State Area. This site contains all-inclusive haunt information in one centralized and user friendly location. It's a free listing site of haunts that want to utilize us! We took it a step further and added a personal rating scale constructed and tailored to our love of all things that ooze, slash, grunt, growl, scream, howl, and go bump in the night!
We try to keep the info on here as correct and current as possible. Some of these places re-open
evey season, some come and go. So, if you see something that's wrong or if something on the site is not working, please let
us know.
The year after the name of the haunt, is the last time the info was updated, please besure to check their website or facebook pages before you head out spooking.

Our Ratings:
The ratings are done on a 5 star scale. These are our own personal opinions and should be taken as such. We average between 2 and 5 reveiwers, taking the average evaluation between our group to generate an unbias rating. We try to go to as many haunts as we can every year but don't always make it to all of them. We only rate Spookhouses & Haunts. Other Fall attractions like Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes, Petting Zoos, Cider Mills, etc. we may post our experience there but no ratings. If the attraction has many different Fall things including a Haunt, we will only rate it apon request.
Ratings are based on that years attractions and things we look for in our ratings are: scare/startle factor, creativity, auditory effects, smell effects, lighting, visual stimulation & detail, props/structures, location, easy to find, hospitality, fun factor, character make-up/mask, character interaction, aesthetics/textures, uniqueness/originality, and value.
Please note that we have changed the way we do our scoring for the haunts we attend. This was done to give a more accurate rating of the haunts. So some scores may come down from where they were. This does NOT necessarily mean the quality of the haunt has gone down, just a reflection of the new scoring method.
Everyone has different views of spookhouses and what scares them, so we encourage everyone to check them out for yourself and find the one you like best. Let us know "witch" Haunt is your favorite on our Facebook page.
Spooktacular Award:
The STFS Spooktacular Award was first given in 2015 and is typically awarded yearly to our overall favorite Haunt. The highest rating does NOT always determine the winner. After the spooking season has ended, we will hold our annual meeting to evaluate scores and impressions on the Haunts we visited that year. Once a winner is decided, the winner will be announced via our Facebook page normally on January 13 at 1:13pm.
